Successful Ram Fair At Whangarei
Commercial
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited, in conjunction with Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons, Limited, report holding their first annual ram fair at, Kensington Park Showgrounds, Whangarei, on Saturday, when an excess of the advertised numbers of rams came forward. There was a large attendance of buyers from as far apart as Waipu to the south and Te Paki in the Far North. The sale can be considered as being exceptionally good, and prices obtained for the various rams compared more than favourably with those obtained at other and older established fairs.
The expression of opinion passed on all sides was that the prices received were well above vendors’ expectations. Just on 300 rams were sold, and these averaged,. including all breeds, 4 1-3 guineas. Practically the whole of the yarding was comprised of locally bred sheep, the firms concerned going; to considerable trouble to prevent outside entries being offered at the expense of local breeders. Prices realised were:—
