Ranges Relit At Russell
If rain had not commenced to fall in Russell yesterday the greater number of the citizens would have been faced with the task of water-carrying. Primus and oil stoves have been the popular or, perhaps, unpopular means of cooking in many homes for several weeks, and one housewife was forced to resort to an ingenious out-of-doors fireplace. In addition to cooking for a family of six by the most primitive of methods, she has been making jams and sauces. Rain commenced to fall shortly after 8 a.m. dnd by evening the majority of dry tanks were again full, and kitchen ranges were relit. Blackened Countryside. The surrounding country has been terribly parched. Large tracts of
blackened country mark the trail of many scrub and grass fires. Temperatures during the past week have been consistently high, the thermometer each day registering in excess of PO degrees Fahrenheit.
