Heavy Expenditure In Otamatea County
A period of heavy expenditure over the last few weeks has left the majority of the ridings in the Otamatca county with debit balances. Only one riding, Maungaturoto, showed a balance on the right side of the ledger. Balances are as follows, all being debit, with the exception of Maungaturoto: Mareretu, £198; Paparoa, £143; Whakapirau. £6l; Tokatoka, £7&; Ruawai, £161; Kaiwaka, £240; Matakohe, £879; Maungaturoto, £792. The County Fund Account showed a debit balance of £12,480, but this amount, said Mr. Aickin, was reducible by half when Government grant funds were received. Government Grant Expenditure This year has been a particularly heavy one in the expenditure of Government grants in the Otamatea County. At January 24. Government grants to the extent of £11,582 had been expended compared with £4684 at the same date last year, and the sum of £8464 for the financial year ending March 31, 1938.
