Heavy Motor Traffic In Far North
Heavy holiday traffic continues on Northland highways.
Although nearing the end of January, motorists continue to throng the various tourist attractions, while all seaside resorts,, on the east coast in. particular, still harbour large numbers of holiday campers. Dust Nuisance Serious Although, with the continued dry weather the dust nuisance is reaching serious proportions, road surfaces are generally in good order. The road from Whangarei, to Russell has withstood, a heavy volume of traffic, and still presents a good running surface. Helena-Bay and other seaside camp sites are dotted with tents. Many Cars Encountered A Whangarei motorist who made an extensive tour of the Far North this week, reports having encountered continuous streams of cars on all main highways, especially the roads between Whangarei, Dargaville, Opononi, Kawakawa, Russell and Okaihau. The number of motorists visiting the Far North, in line with other parts of Northland, is much greater than in past years. Faihia Petrol Sales One service station proprietor, at Paihia, reports having sold four times the quantity of petrol during these summer holidays as compared with last year. His is only one of four such stations in the locality.
