Flames Leap 100 Ft. In Dargaville Plantation
[Social to “Northern Advocate”] DARGAVILLE; Thursday. A valuable plantation of pines and gums on the Aoroa property of Mr E. Harding was destroyed by fire late yesterday afternoon. The fire spread from a neighbour’s property and swept across the back of the Aoroa block. A gang of men made valiant efforts to stem the blaze, but were only partly successful, about 12 acres of the plantation being destroyed. The flames reached 100 feet in height as they raced through the pines scattering sparks over ! a wide area.
Fire in the swamp is still smouldering today.
