Mangonui County Resumes After Recess

The first meeting in the new year of the Mangonui County Council was held this week, when several matters of general interest were dealt with. Lighting of the Mangonui Wharf was considered and was left in the hands of the riding members and the engineer. Road approach to Ninety Mile Beach at Ahipara was discussed and authority was given to have improvements carried out. Saturday was decided on as the Statutory early closing day throughout the county for the current year. With this decision Councillors McKay and Shaw disagreed. Their amendment to have Thursday the early closing day was lost by five to two. A special order was made authorising the council to raise a special loan of £I6OO for the erection of two cottages for grader drivers.
