Civil Air Guard Expanding Rapidly

The Air Council has decided on the immediate expansion of the Royal Air Force volunteer reserve by the formation of aircraft crews and ground sections and recruitment for training in both the new sections will begin at once.
Over 5500 members of the Civil Air Guard passed the medical examinations and have been enrolled since its formation four months- ago, states the report of the commissioners of the guard. Over 1380 members of the guard now possess “A” licenses and are attending lectures on aviation and being given ground instructions. Over 66 aero clubs are participating in the scheme, and approximately 330 aircraft are being used for instructional purposes. Guns in High-Speed Aircraft. iSpeahling about gun turrets for military aircraft, the Secretary of War, Mr L, Hore-Belisha, who visited a Surrey factory to-day, said British manufacturers had succeeded in solving the problems connected with the operation of guns in high-speed aircraft. He added that Britain had outstripped all other countries in the design of mechanically-operated gun turrets.
