Blow to Cow Brings Man to Court
Striking a cow with a shovel so severely that he broke its leg was the essence of a charge brought in the Magistrate’s Court, Kaikohe last week against Charlie Edmonds. Messrs J. J. Bedggood and J. G. Ritchie, J’s P., presided. Edmonds was fined £5 with costs, 10/-.
Theft of a horse, the property of Mr. R. C. McKenzie, was a charge preferred against Hare Erimana. He was given one month in which to pay the fine of £2 10/-. Unregistered Rifle. Wiremu Tokowha Katene was convicted for stealing benzine, sentence being deferred until January 26. A similar charge against Murphy Hcltz was adjourned until the same date.
Under the Firearms Act, Dick Pehi, a licensed dealer at ' Taheke, -was charged with two offences, one dating back three years. For failing to register, a rifle in 1935 he was fined £1 with 10/- costs, and the rifle was confiscated. He was .also fined £1 with £1 2/ costs for delivering a ■rifle to E. B. Taylor without a permit. For possessing the same rifle Edward Bishop Taylor was fined £1 10/ with 12/- costs, and for delivering another rifle to Dick Pehi who had no permit he was fined another £1 10/- with costs 10/-.
