Netherlands May Be Next Nazi Aim
(Received 11 a.m.)
LONDON, January 13,
Writing in the “News Chronicle,” Mr Vernon Bartlett says the violence of the German campaign against Holland, as the result of the alleged shooting incident, strengthens fears that Herr Hitler’s next attack may be directed against the Netherlands. This is evoking considerable anxiety. There are hints that Germany will endeavour to compel Holland to change her foreign policy by economic pressure, involving discrimination respecting Rhine shipping, a diversion of trade through Antwerp instead of Amsterdam, and a reduction in imports of agricultural produce from Holland.
It is understood that thd Federal Government at Washington has spent 9,632.000,000 dollars for relief work between April, 1935, and December, 1938.
