1/- “Anti-Snob” Ball Draws Londoners
(Received 11 a.m.) LONDON, January 13,
One thousand guests attended a “shilling anti-snob” ball, arranged by the Mayor of Wimbledon, and held in the Town Hall. The men wore day clothes, and the women afternoon dresses.
Numerous titled people attended, including Sir Harry Twyford, former Lord Mayor of London. The Mayor of Wimbledon declared the object of the ball was to enable citizens to enjoy the facilities of the civic building, from which they had previously been excluded, owing to the high price of charity functions.
