61 Die From Heat In Three Days In N.S.W.
(Received noon). SYDNEY, This Day. Twenty died as the result of heat wave in New South Wales yesterday, making the total 61 in three days. Last night was the most oppressive ever experienced in Sydney. At midnight the temperature was 93 degrees with a very high degree of humidity. Fierce heat is reported at Wilcania, where five deaths have occurred since Monday, the thermometer having averaged 114 degrees for 10 days. Hospitals Overcrowded. Hospital staffs in the western towns of New South Wales are working overtime, .and the majority of the country hospitals are unable to take more patients. “We’ve never known anything like it,” said a hospital doctor in a western centre referring to the prolonged intense heat.
