Ruawai Farmers Urged Not To Pay Rates
[Special to “Northern Advocate'll DARGAVILLE. This Day.
At the monthly meeting of the Ruawai branch of the Farmers’ Union on Thursday evening, as .a means of direct action against what is considered to be an injustice, the farmers were urged not to pay the hospital rate to the Otamatea County Council.
It w,as decided to write to the Council asking that the amount of hospital levy be itemised on the rate demands so that farmers would know how much they were being called upon to contribute towards the service.
Discussions also took place on the classification of the Ruawai-Raupo drainage area as a riding within the county. It was decided to ask the council for reclassification of the roads, in the Ruawai district so that the weight restrictions could be raised from two tons to three tons in the summer months from October 1 to April 30.
