(Received 1 p.m.) CAPETOWN, January 9. The M.C.C. touring side defeated Eastei’n Provinces by an innings and 235 runs. In reply to their opponent’s first innings total of 172. M.C.C. made 518 for six wickets and declared. Hutton made 202. Paynter 99, Hammond 52, Edrich 31 and Bartleet, not out. 33. Hutton and Paynter trounced the weak bowling, the former batting for 167 minutes. His tally included two sixes and 23 boundaries. Bartleet hit the fast bowler Ferreira for five consecutive fours. Eastern Provinces, in their second innings, were dismissed for 111. Fames took two wickets for 14. Perks three for 29, and Wright four for 39. I
