Christmas Cheer At Mt. Eden
[,Special to “Northern Advocute”] AUCKLAND, This Day.
Freedom to smoke “tailor made” cigarettes on Christmas Day will be one of the highlights of the festive season for the inmates of the Auckland prison. The “smokes” will be made available by the Auckland Discharged Prisoners’ Aid Society, as one of the many surprises in Christmas packages which are now being prepared for each inmate. Among the other delights will be cake, fruit and confectionery. Nor are the wives and dependents of these men to be overlooked. This morning the Rev. G. E. Moreton, secretary of the society, and Mrs Moreton, were ankle-deep in a heterogenous collection of presents—clothing, books, boots and shoes, provisions and all these things that people require both for apparel and nourishment, destined for the women and kiddies and for the inmates of the various prisons.'
