British Naval Air Base

(Received 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, December 16.

The aviation correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that the Royal Air Force Sunderland aircraft base at Singapore has been actively surveying a trans-ocean route between Singapore and Trincomalee, where an air naval base, costing £1,500,000, has been established, the harbour of which is described by the Admiralty as one of the most perfect in the world. It is of strategical value as it is halfway between Adbn and (Singapore, and it is recognised that it may be more important if the Japanese persuade Siam to allow the cutting of a canal across the Malay Peninsular passing by Singapore.
