Report Of Attempt On II Duce’s Life Is Denied
(Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, December 16. A message from Reuter’s Rome correspondent states that nothing is known of an alleged attempt on the life of II Duce. A report in an Australian paper is described as groundless. Telephoning from Rome later, this correspondent reported that nothing unusual had occurred regarding Signor Mussolini’s life. The British United Press Rome correspondent, similarly, is unaware of any attempt on II Duce. The Italian Embassy in London stated that it knew nothing of the story, and would certainly have been informed if an assassination had been attempted. Further inquiry in Rome elicited not a word in support of the report. A Sydney message states that no report was received from London regarding an attempt on Signor Mussolini’s life, but it is believed in Sydney that sortie Australian newspapers stated that such an attempt had been made.
