Railways Show Further Loss
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] WELLINGTON, This Bay. The net railway revenue for the fcur-weekly period ended November 12. compared with the result for the corresponding period last year, shows a loss of ground to the extent of £30,525. A working loss of £12,152 compares with a profit; of £18.373. The loss for the 32 weeks of the railway year to November 12 now totals £92.521. The Railway Working Account for the period of four weeks, an abstract of which was gazetted last night, shows the gross receipts to have been £647.582. an increase of £33,402 on the figure for last. year. Expenses at £659.734 were £63.927 ■ higher. Earnings by the North Island railways were £336,118, an increase of £4726. and expenses wore £350.634, or £27.177 higher. There was a loss of £14.516. compared with a profit of £7935. Receipts from the South Island railways were £211.305. an increase of £6461, and expenses were £231.987. orf £8424 higher. There was a working loss of £20.682. with a loss of £18.719.
