Royal Show At Hamilton

i At last the Waikato A. and P. Association has. achieved its greatestdesire—the staging of the first Royal Show to be held in Hamilton. The show was opened this morning on the picturesque Claudelands Showgrounds, with record entries. On these grounds are paraded over 1000 horses, 9GO cattle, 800 sheep, 343 pigs, numerous head of poultry, dogs representing 43 breeds, and many other attractions including scores of sideshows. Magnificent trophies valued at £2400 are to be won, the most valuable of all being the large Challenge Shield, valued at £2OO. This has been awarded to the exhibitor who gains most points in the livestock section. There are many gold and silver cups of rich design,, and worth over £SO each, to be gained in various classes, while every championship carries a cup or medal. More Attractions Than Ever,

This is the 15th New. Zealand Royal Show to be held under the auspices of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand, and those who are competent to express an opinion state that this year’s fixture is more attractive than ever. Success is assured. Entries and visitors have been arriving for days past from all the recognised show districts in the Dominion.

Official Opening,

The 1938 Royal Show will be officially opened to-morrow afternoon by His Excellency, the Governor-General, Viscount. Galway. It will be continued until Saturday afternoon, when ring events will include jumping, the grand parade, sheepdog trials and numerous novelty events. On Saturday afternoon, too, the principal attraction will be the final of the Dominion jumping competition, for which prize-money totalling £l2O has been provided. There are 44 entries for this event, which will be taken in sections over the three days.
