Bowlers’ Last Tribute To Late Mr. Hayward

In recognition of feis outstanding services to the sport, and the high popularity which lie enjoyed on and off the greens, members of the Kensington Bowling Club yesterday ac-

corded the late Mr Frederick Hayward what is believed to be the first bowlers’ funeral in Whangarcf. Club members attended, wearing club badges and blazers over mourning suits, and the pall bearers wore Messrs E. G. W. Tibbits. president nl the Kensington Club, R. Huyton, who like the late Mr Hayward .was a foundation member, E. B. Moore, secretary and Mr C. V. Stringer, representing the North Auckland Bowling Centre. A beautiful wreath from the club was placed on the coffin. Referring to the passing of Mr Hayward, a foundation and life member of the club, the president, Mr E. G. W. Tibbits at a meeting of the Kensington committee last night, said that to his knowledge the funeral arrangements made by the club were the first in the district wherein bowlers had attended in their club blazers, and the pall bearers were all bowlers. A motion of sympathy with relatives of the 'ate Mr Hayward was passed. A very large number of town and country people attended the funeral. Amongst those present were a considerable number of the country settlers from the Maungakaramea, Mangapai and Waikiekie districts, including several members of the Whangarei County Council. The town of Whangarei was well represented. Floral emblems were both numerous and beautiful. The Rev. H. T. Steele conducted - the burial service.
