Little Fire Loss In Past Four Months

Although the Whangarei Volunteer Fire Brigade’s services have been required six times since the last meeting in April, the fire loss has been very smtill, according to a report submitted to today’s meeting of the Whangarei Fire Board by the brigade superintendent, Mr C. H. Chissell. On the afternoon of April 20, a call had been received to ,a shop and dwelling in Upper Bank Street, but no damage had resulted, while on the evening of May 16 a dwelling in Kamo had been totally destroyed. On June 25 ,a morning call had been received to a dwelling in Kamo Road, interior damage resulting. Three calls had been received on Monday, July 24. Two of these had come simultaneously late in the afternoon, one to a dwelling in Portland Road, where damage was negligible, and the other to a house in Kamo Road, whei’e a small amount of damage had resulted. Later in the evening, another call had come with an outbreak of fire in an outbuilding in Kamo Road, where, however, no damage had resulted.

Mr Chissell stated that the equipment of the new Ford V 8 fire engine was now practically complete, including a new 25-foot Ajax ladder. The report was adopted.
