Bidding was faix’ly steady at the first call on ’Change today, but there were more blanks than usual on the buyers’ side, and the market tone was not strong. There was fair interest in G. J. Coles shares, and three small parcels were placed at 79/6, a reduction of 3d with more in demand at that figure. Dunlops, with business at 21/9, gained 3d, and Colonial Sugars sold 5/- higher at £47 7/6. Broken Hill Pty., were easier, with sales at 58/3 and more on offer at that price.

Auckland Gas shares were steady, but Wilson’s Cements continued weaker, with sellers at 17/9 and buyers stopping at 17/-. Wairakei shares were quoted ex-dividend with sellers at 9/6 and no buyers. In the mining section, Marthas were offered Id lower at 11/6, buyers steady at 11/-.

In Government issues a sale of 5357 3£ per cent bonds was the first since June, and at £O4 10/- showed a drop of £4 7/6. As a half year’s interest was paid on July 1. the effective decline is £2 12'6 .
