Bay Electric Power Board

£».. A .number of steps necessary to place the operation of the Bay of Islands Electric Power Board under way were taken at the monthly meeting of the board at Kaikohe last Friday. Mr A. E; Bisset occupied the ; c^alr. letter was received from the - manager of the State Advances Corporation of New Zealand stating ihat .the board of management was considering the terms upon which the’ sum of £40,000 in the special £200,000 loan was to be offered, arid ‘ ; that further advice would follow in i a ' day of two. The Secretary to the Treasury wrote forwarding an extract from the New * Zealand Gazette containing an Order - in-Council consenting to the raising of the bank overdraft loan of £4574 5/3. v . The board’s secretary, Mr Thorpe, was authorised to procure the necessary office appliances, books and furniture necessary to the board’s operation.

The consultihg engineer, Mr L.* Mandeno, was requested to furnish a recommendation of a tariff of charges ,< ioi the supply of'electric power, to be presented to the next meeting of the board. The agreement for the engagement of Mr Mandeno as consulting engineer was approved! by the board. It was decided that the agreement with the Public Works Department for the supply of power in bulk should be executed. Notice was received of the approval ! v of the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, for the payment of an honorarium of £ 150 to the board = chairman. In the event of his being available, % the secretary, together with the engin,l eer, was authorised to attend the annual conference of power boards to be L-= held at Wellington during the period ft'; from September 12 to September 14. Permission was granted Mr D. J. -- McKay to erect an electric power line across the public road to the new fj/ wharf at Mangonui, Permission was also granted Northland Radios Ltd. to wire two Kaikohe residences. I The engineer was authorised to obtain offers for the purchase of a car ; ft lor his own use. ,* \The purchase of land for a depot, and for residential sites for the . , board’s staff, was, agreed upon, and it was also decided to take another two ■- years’ lease of the present office pre;ft mises, on the condition that neces- 1 !ft sary alterations and ♦renovations bo carried out. * The chairman and Mr, N, A. Ellery, ’ together with the consulting engineer, were appointed a sub-ccmmitteo to f'l deal with tenders for the supply of : insulators, poles and cross-arms, with power to add.
