Cheers For Emily and Bob
At Umawera Hall on Friday a week ago, hearty cheers were given for Boh and Emily Grayson, two young Northlanders, who, in playing their part in the Kupe Club scheme of bringing sunshine into the lives of others, gave a grand example of selflessness.
These two little people read with interest of the plan to build an orphanage at Tikipunga, and they wanted to help. They looked to their possessions and foundone lamb. This they sold, and obtained £l, In itself that would have been a substantial contribution; but Boh and Emily had ideas —and plenty of energy.
They appealed to the authorities for permission and arranged ways and means of selling tickets to ultimately multiply their original £1 by six.
In the Umawera Hall their effort came to a grand conclusion when Mr Guy adjudged their
competition, announcing Miss Dawes, of Umawera, the winner of the £1 prize. He paid tribute to the unselfishness of Boh and Emily, and the large gathering present showed their appreciation of his remarks by cheering the two small people to the echo.
The money collected by Bob and Emily—£6 1/—has duly been acknowledged in the “Young Northlander,” the £1 prize money has been paid out, and Bob and Emily may now sit back, feeling that they have well and truly done their bit.
In a covering letter with the final 10/G, Emily’s only remark is: “My word, hasn’t everyone helped.’’ It is typical of the modesty she and her brother have displayed all through. We thank these two Northlanders of Umawera. May they know all happiness.
