Unfortunate Frenchmen

(Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, August 28. The Paris correspondent of “The Times” says that 800 Frenchmen reI sident at Isola, Alpes Maritimes, whose land is on the Italian side of, the frontier, owing to the boundary drawn up under the treaty of 1860, have been advised! by the Italian authorities, that, the land is required for military purposes, and must be handed over immediately. If the demand is accepted by today, they will be given a month to remove their cattle and gather their harvest. Otherwise, troops will occupy the farms, and work on the fortifications will begin without delay. The mayor declares that the owners are rejecting the demands, in the hope that the French and Italian Govern-* ments will compromise.
