The Doubles Semi-Finals

(Received 10 a.m.) NEW YORK, August 27. V In the semi-finals of the national doubles championship. Budge and Make beat Alison and Van Ryn, 6—l. 6—2, 3—6, 10—8, Allison giving a magnificent exhibition in the fourth set, in which he completely overshadowed Budge. Had Van Ryn been anything but a broken reed, the veterans might have won. In the other semi-final Quist and Bromwich heat Hopman and Schwartz, 7 — 6, 4—6, 6 —3, 6—3. The Australians put on an exhiibtion game almost in a professional manner. It was a, magnificent, shpw. Women's Doubles Final . The women’s doubles final was a stirring contest, in which every point was disputed, Miss Marble and Jilrs. Fabyan beating Mme. Mathieu and Mile. Jedrzejowska. 6—B, 6—4, 6—3. The Americans’ retention of, the title was due to Mrs. Fabyan’s brilliance. Miss Marble was uncertain, and repeatedly netted or overdrove at critical Mrs. whp has jheld the title six times, rose to great heights, volleying superbly. She covered more of the court than she I would have done if Miss Marble been supporting her adequately, and. but for this, their opponents would have won. They played sparkling teniiis. In the semi-finals, Mme. Mathieu and Mile. Jedrzejowska beat Misses Wynne and Coyne (Australia), 6 —4, 6—2. The results of the mixed doubles were:—Third round: Miss Marble and Budge beat Miss Wolfenden and Kovacs, 6—4. 6—3; Mrs. Hopman and Hopman beat Miss Workman and Wood, 6—3. 7—5; Miss Coyne and Bromwich beat Mrs. van- Ryn and Alison, 6—2, 2—6, B—6.
