Fire At Dargaville

[Special to “Northern Advocate.”] DARGAVILLE, This Day. At 12.30 o’clock yesterday morning, fire damaged a single-storeyed wooden shop building in Victoria Street. parently starting in a small .storeroom at the back of the premises, the flames charred this section and the interior of the shop, which was occupied by Mr. H. Ratcliffe, cycle dealer. Stock was damaged, including a rack of tyres. The occupant of a neighbouring shop, Low Yim, a Chinese laundryman. noticing the smoke, ran 1 to a nearby taxi rank to give the alarm. Tire brigade effected a good save, and the fire was prevented from spreading to adjoining premises. No estimate of the damage or insurance figures were available yesterday.

A RESOLUTION was” passed at a meeting of the Hutt branch of the Railway Tradesmen’s Association, “that this branch deplores the action of the Brutish Medical Association toward the Government’s national health and superannuation proposals, and that it supports the Government in any action it may think ft to take.’’

“A smoker is never a glutton, writes “Old Hand” in an American monthly, "he enjoys the pleasures of the table without abusing them.” He might have added that the weed has helped many a man to endure the pangs of hunger with something > like equanimity. A pipe of tobacco is, ot course, a poor substitute for a sejuare meal but if you can't get a square meal a smoke will prove very helpful When isn’t a smoke helpful indeed? In gcod times and in bad; when your luck’s in and when it’s out a pipe's the thing - And if you appreciate really first-class baccy you can get it at the nearest tobacconist’s shop. Just ask for one of the well-known toasted blends—Cut Plug No. 10 (Bulkhead), Cavendish, Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), Riverhead Gold and Desert Gold. Made of the choicest leaf, and blended with extreme care these tobaccos are as pure as they are fragrant. All are toasted. hence their comparative harmlcssness. It’s toasting that gets most of their nicotine out of them and safeguards the smoker. Q 770
