Beef In Keen Demand At Westfield

Yardings of ox beef were much smaller at the Westfield stock sale yesterday, Beef sold under keen competition, rates in the cow and heifer sections showing a decided improvement on recent sales. There was an average yarding of sheep, which attracted a steady demand, and values showed little variation from those of last week. Wethers were traded to 35/6, compared with 37/6 last week.

The top prices for runners and vealers, £7/17/, and £6/18/ respectively, marked an advance on last week’s levels.

The feature of the pig sale was the higher scale of bidding for porkers, the top prices in this section showing a rise from £3/11/ to £4/4/. Baconers and porkers made firm values, and were quoted without change at 7Jd and 8d per lb. respectively. A draft of cattle yarded by Judd Brothers, of Maungaturoto, was sqld to £l3/17/6.
