Surprises at Maungatapere

The qualifying rounds for the men’s championships of she Maungatapere club were played on Saturday under ideal weather conditions, but the cards returned were very disappointing. Surprises were created by M. Newton and C. Going, who played too badly to qualify. Seniors to qualify were;— MacMillan, Dawson, Hawken, Adlam, Goode, Kidd, Smith and Jones. Juniors: Heape, Delamore, A. Kerr, Stevens, D. Kerr, MacLeod, Foote and Newton senr. Medals were won by Kidd (senior) and Heape (junior).
The draw lor the second round of the captain’s trophy is: Feaver v. Teal; MacMillan v. Dawson; Delamore v. Kerr; Stevenson v. Vallance; Adlam v. Scott; Smith v. Hawken; Going v. Foote; M. Newton v. Hcape; Goode v. Newton senr.; Stevens v. Bradley. Maungatapere Ladies. Following is the draw for the monthly medal and third eclectic round for Mr. Newton’s trophy to be played on Saturday: Mrs. Scott v. Mrs. Bell; Miss Adlam v. Miss Newton; Mrs. Maugham v. Mrs. Heape; Mrs. Adlam v. Miss Hawken; Mrs. Dawson v. Miss Murdoch; Miss Fraser v. Miss A. Morrison; Miss McKenzie v. Mrs. Delamore; Miss Armstrong v. Mrs. Armstrong; Miss Heape v. Mrs. Kerr; Mrs. Kirk v. iVlrs. Foote; Mrs. Going v. Mrs. Stevenson; Mrs. Wilding v. Mrs. Lingard; Mrs. MacLeod v. Miss Morrison; Mrs. Anderson v. Mrs. J. Morrison. Rawene The annual trophy presented by Mr. M. C. Kelly for the best pair in a ladies’ match was played for on Sunday. Mrs. T. M. Miller and Miss I. Kelly with a net 139 won the trophy. Miss N. Bowden and Miss A. Garcia, 141, being runners-up. , Leading scores in the third round for the President’s cup were M. C. Kelly net 67, T. M. Miller 69, R. Mills 70.
