Trainers had to use No. 2 grass track at Ellerslie this morning, on which the poles were five feet out, but, owing to recent rain, the going was heavy and cut out badly. No particularly fast times were recorded. Kilonsa and Land Girl were the first out, and were timed to run six furlongs in 1.21 1-5. Tybalt sprinted half a mile in 55 seconds. Knight of Australia and Wee Pat got to the end of set*n furlongs in 1.40 4-5, the last half-mile taking 56 4-5 seconds. Palmint was under restraint throughout the last half-mile of his work, which took 58 seconds. Jonathan and Trilliarch completed a round in 1.56 2-5, taking 1.27 2-5 for their last six furlongs. Ringshot and Boy Lu sprinted three furlongs in 41 1-5 seconds. Shy completed his work with,a run down the straight, and Illumani was also allotted serviceable work. Marie's Aero, who has boon, on the easy list for a week, sprinted three furlongs in 40 2-5 seconds. Philcourt and Trackman were going comfortably, and traversed half a mile in 58 1-5 seconds, the first furlong taking 15 seconds. Captain Bruce completed half a mile in 54 3-5 seconds. This hack has improved a good deal during the last fortnight.

Moncur tGovernment—Rotorua), praying that immediate effect be given to the unanimous recommendation of Royal Commissions. committees of the House of Representatives, and Chief Engineers of the Public Woiks Department, recommending the construction of a railway from Rotorua to Taupe. The petition sets cut that in 1923 the building of the lino as far as Rotorua was authorised, and a sum of money was voted by Parliament, work actually being commenced. In 1929 Sir Joseph Ward stopped the construction after the expenditure of >144 000.
