The Grand National meeting opened at Riccarton in overcast but fine weather, with a warm wind. There was a targe attendance. The track is heavy, but rapidly drying. Results wore as follows: — Trial Hurdles, of SOOsovs.. one and three-quarter miles.— (9-10) Top Rank. 9.0. 1; (4-6) Padishah, 11.6, 2; (1-1) Inncs Lad, 10.7, 3. Scratched: Guilder. P.aparua Handicap, of 300 sovs; six furlongs.—Rebel Mate, 9.7, 1; Top Row. 9.3, 2; Petersham, 8.1, 3. Scratched: Royal Gallant. Golden Chest. Great Pal.
Jumpers Flat, of 300 sovs; one mile and a half.— I Travenna, 11.2, 1; Fireguard, 9.9, 2; Rango, 9.11, 3. Scratched: Lone Raider, Royal Banquet, Monastic.
