Smart Sprints At Ellerslie

[Special to “Northern Advocate.”] AUCKLAND, This Day.

A cold northerly wind made matters rather unpleasant for training at Ellersiie this morning. No. 2 grass track was available for fast work, and the going was good for this period of the year. Some smart sprints were registered, the best being those of Philcourt, Fleetwind, Trilliarch, Jonathan and Valmint.

Kilonsa and Land Girl were the first out. and were timed to run the last five of six furlongs in 1.6 3-5. There was little between them at the finish.

Tybalt completed a useful task by running his last Ijalf-mile in 52 2-ss. Knight of Australia and Wee Pat were sent seven furlongs, and. after commencing slowly, ran their last four in 54 2-ss.

High Star was net doing better than 15s to the furlong, and "Armacourt was timed to run her last half-mile in 555. Marheke ran home from the threefurlong post in 40 3-ss, and Mundane completed a similar task in 40 l-ss. Aero Queen got to the end of six furlongs in 1.21. She ran the last five in I.G 1-5, and the final three in 41 2-ss. Hunting Maid, who looks well, was also allotted useful work, and was not timed.

Games and Fidelis sprinted three furlongs, but were not doing better than 15s to the furlong. Valmint finished ahead of El Meynell after traversing five furlongs in 1.5 2-5. It was a useful trial and Valmint put plenty of dash into his work. Rajanya impressed more than Piracy throughout half a mile, which occupied 51 l-ss. This was also a satisfactory effort. Electric Spear was not extended while traversing six furlongs in 1,24 4-5. Crooning had Valdene as a mate over half a mile which took 525. The two-year-old Dark Legion sprinted down from the six to the four-furlong post, taking 26 3-5 s for the two furlongs. He worked very smoothly and his effort was encouraging.

Palmint was given an easy task, working nicely.

Tane Mahotu finished well clear of King Rod over a round run in 1.55, the last six furlongs being covered in 1.24 4-5.
