Durham Match Delayed
Cricket
LONDON, August 8. The Australian cricketers were today to commence a two-day cricket match against Durham at Sunderland, The Australians omitted Bradman, Barnett, Chipperfield, Ward and Fingleton, the last-named .acting as 12th man.
Fog shrouded the ground, and the pavilion was invisible from the opposite side of the wicket, and barely discernible from the boundary, delaying the start. The fog suddenly lifted, and when McCabe won the toss Australia opened at 2.30 p.m. on a slow wicket. The highlight of the afternoon's cricket was an unfinished partnership of 169 runs by Barnes and Badcock. The former, batting in a most dashing style, reached his century in 120 minutes, and at stumps he had hit 15 boundaries. Badcock, driving and hooking furiously, raced to the century in 81 minutes. He hooked a sixer and 10 fours. Details. —• AUSTRALIA. First Innings.
