Maunu Card Evenings
Fortnightly euchre parties continue to be popular in the Maunu Hall. A large crowd turned out in the, wet last Saturday night. First prize in the ladies’ section was won by Mrs Fallon, while Mrs M. Gunson won the consolation. The men’s prize went to Mr Going, and, after a play-off with Mr Murray, Ronald H.awken took the consolation award. After supper a jolly hour of dancing to music supplied by Messrs H. Gunson and J. Norris was a pleasant conclusion to the evening. FOOTBALLERS DANCE. A very enjoyable dance was held by the Maunu footballers in the Maunu Hall on Monday evening last. Although the rain was unceasing, those who experienced difficulties in arriving at the hall forgot all their troubles to the music of Ces Wright’s Band. Prize winners were Misses E. Snell, ■N, Crawford, Griffiths, K. Power and partners. During the evening special prizes were presented by Mrs S. McKinney to Reg. Thomas and Brydon Whitelaw for the best-turned-out boy during the football season. Mr L. C. Garry (president of the Whangarei Rugby Union) thanked all those present and added v that the funds from the dance were towards sending the Maunu team to Auckland .for a match to’ be arranged. A very delightful supper was served by the committee, and dancing continued until 12.45 p.m. Mr C. Barge performed the duty of M.C.
