Track gallops at Ellerslie this morning were confined to No. 3 grass track, but, owing to the heavy state of the ground, no fast times were recorded. Several useful efforts were recorded, one that impressed being a two-furlong sprint by the rising two-year-old La Vie and Dark Legion, who both shaped attractively. El Meyneil got to the end of four furlongs in 54 l-ss, the first furlong taking 13 4-ss. Valmint and Armacourt ran the same distance in similar time. Both horses handled the going well. Palmint shaded Tybalt at the end of half a mile run in 53 4-ss, the first furlong being covered in 13 1-5. Ringshot and Venus of Milo took 55 2-5 s for four furlongs, finishing about on terms. Lighter and Piracy strode over three furlongs in 425. and Trilliarch was in front of Jonathan at the end of a similar task, which took 41 2-ss. Illumani strode over a round, running her last half-mile in 5G 2-ss. Te Maranui later ran the same distance in 555, the final three furlongs taking 41s. A smart effort was registerede by the youngsters Le Vie and Dark Region, who ran from the six to the four furlongs, taking 12 4-ss.
