Lord Halifax, Britain’s Foreign Secretary, has had very weighty tasks to perform during the past few days in connection with Czechoslovakia, Spain and the Far East, tasks for which he is eminently qualified by a long career in the diplomatic world. He was born in 1881 and has been prominently associated with British politics since 1901. He was appointed Viceroy of India, as Lord Irwin, and held the position till 1931. In 1934, he became the third Viscount Halifax on the death of his father.
