Champion Boxers Coming North
Every effort is being put forward by the Whangaroi Boxing Association to make Saturday night’s tournament the finest yet seen in Whangarei. Among the 18 contests scheduled for the evening will be seen the very best of local talent as well as some of the most successful ring-men in the province. When Nixon, Auckland representative in the New Zealand championships, and one-time Auckland provincial champion, meets Woods, a rugged, strongly-built fighter, there is likely to be seen one of the hardest battles yet provided for a Northland public. Woods carries a great punch in his right glove, and made a name for himself by knocking out Vic Caltaux, the sensational Auckland boxer who has had four wins out of five principal fights. Woods’s achievement in defeating Caltaux has placed him on a pedestal in the boxing world, and will be sure of providing a firstclass bout on Saturday. Intending patrons are advised to book early at Laurie’s, Cameron Street, as the plan is rapidly filling up.
