(Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, July 27. A carefully-checked record received at the headquarters of the Trades Union Council reveals that since the outbreak of the war in Spain the rebels have executed nearly 14,000 Basques—lo,ooo of them without trial —imprisoned /SO,OOO, sent a similar number to concentration camps, deprived 50,000 of their civil rights, and driven 120,000 from the country. The Spanish loyalists, harrying out a surprise attack in order to create a diversion in the Catalonia sector, crossed the Ebro River at eleven points on a 90-mile front, (and approached to within a mile of Danbesa, the key town of the Tarragona area, says a message from Barcelona, They captured 2500 rebels and took Carbera and Villalba, The republicans claim that, continuing their surprise offensive today, they advanced beyond Ganbesa. Airmen in four aeroplanes bombed Tarragona, killing five people and wounding 21.
