Train Strikes Taxi At Level Crossing
Struck by the engine of the Southbound goods train at Kensington Avenue level crossing at about 1.20 o’clock this morning, Mr. L. Agate, a taxi-driver of Whcngarei had a miraculous escape In m injury. Although the taxicab was extensively damaged on its left side, the driver’s side was practically unharmed. Mr. Agate who was returning to the taxi depot, was alone at the time of the accident. The force of the impact, brought many local residents to the scene, where it was found that Mr. Agate had escaped without a scratch. The train concerned was the regular Otiria-Whangarei night train. No damage was done to the rail line.
