Haifa In State of Siege; Troops Active
(Received 2,0 p.m.) LONDON. July 25. rpUIRTY-NINE ARABS WERE KILLED AND 46 WOUNDED AT HAIFA, AS THE RESULT OF A BOMB EXPLOSION IN THE MARKETPI ACE. AND BY RIOTING. Nine fires broke out this morning. Police, troops and marines are coping with the rioters. Hooligans are stoning passers-by and breaking shop windows. Arabs, incensed by tho bomb outrage, set fire to two Jewish shops. Business is at a standstill. The Jewish quarter is strongly guarded during the day, and curfew has been proclaimed in adjacent districts. The town is in a state of siege. Troops have rounded up suspected terrorists in the Tulkarem area. Fifty houses have been demolished in the village in which a Royal Scots sergeant was shot dead on July 19.
