Kamo Defeat Hikurangi

Flushed with their victory over City the previous week, Kamo, who hitherto have remained modestly in the background of the senior competition this year, staged another surprise in their game with Hikurangi. winning 10—8. Kamo fielded the better team on the day. and played their best game of the season. Despite the rains, the ground was in. fair order, being a, little slippery at the top end, but by no means muddy. Playing with all their old sting and dash, Kamo held a decided advantage throughout the first spell. In the second half the honours were territorially with Hikurangi. whose hooker, C. O'Callaghan, had it over his opposite number. McMillan. McMillan was. however, one of the outstanding forwards of the Kamo pack. Hikurangi could lay much of their defeat at the hands of J. Taylor. Fame’s star forward, who broke away very fast from the scrums and demoralised the visiting team’s attack time after time. The winners’ tries were secured by Murray and Taylor, Lj Hooper converting one and kicking a penalty. For Hikurangi, C. Taylor scored two tries, while Claude Hamilton kicked a penalty. He also had the mortification of missing a fairly easy penalty shot at goal late in the game, when a goal would have given a draw as the result. Mr J. Hill controlled the game.
