Visit Of Scout Commissioner
Guides, Scouts, Brownies and Cubs of Russell thoroughly enjoyed the talk given them in the Scout Den on Wednesday evening by Mr J. R. Cooksey, Dominion Commissioner of Training of Boy Scouts, who is touring Northland. A good attendance listened attentively to Mr Cooksey’s bright discourse on Empire travel. His association with Scouts’ from all parts of the world, met at different Jamborees, gave him a wonderful knowledge of his subject and a vivid portrayal of the world-wide Scout movement since its origin kept the rapt attention of his listeners. Photographs illustrating the talk were handed round. Commissioner Cooksey, who led a contingent of New Zealand Scouts to the World Jamboree, held in Melbourne recently, is taking a troop of Scouts, 560 strong, over to another Jamboree, to be held in Sydney at the end of this year. At the conclusion of his address the speaker was given an ovation.
