Pitcairn Reports All Well
[Special to “Northern AdvOc.it* .”] AUCKLAND, This Day. A report that Pitcairn Islanders are facing destitution because no ships have called and no supplies have been landed for six weeks was contradicted yesterday by Auckland shipping agents. They stated that several vessels had visited the islands in recent weeks. The latest ship to call at the' island was the Tainui, which arrived at Wellington yesterday from Southampton. She loaded fruit there about 10 days ago. A cable was published yesterday stating that an amateur wireless operator, Mrs Dorothy Hall, who constantly communicates with Mr Andrew Young, wireless operator on Pitcairn Island, stated that she was informed by the British Consul that Pitcairn Islanders were facing destitution, owing to a rumour that typhoid was raging there, a report which was causing vessels to avoid the island.
