Young Scotsmen For N.Z. Farms
[Special to “Northern Advocate.”] HAMILTON, This Day. Eight young Scots farm hands arrived in Wellington yesterday. Their arrival in this country was the result of an interview between Mr C. J. Parlane, general manager of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Com-
pany, Ltd., and Mr A. L. Thompson, in Hamilton, twelve months ago. Mr Pariane said last night that Mr Thompson, a youngj Scotsman, had, come to New Zealand and spent some time working on farms and as a freezing works butcher. As he was returning to Scotland, . he suggested to Mr Pariane that he should select suitable young farm hands to come to New Zealand to relieve the labour shortage in this country. Mr Par-
lane 3aid he approved of the suggestion, and took immediate slteps to adopt it. On his return , to Scotland, Mr Thompson worked in co-operation with Mr J. B. Wright, the company’s London manager. Eight young men, who had excellent references , and were described as being of a very fine type, were selected, and arrangements made for them to take up farm positions immediately they arrived.
