The tenth birthday of the Maunu Women’s Institute was held in the local hall, Mrs Armstrong presided. Many members from sister Institutes were present and a very pleasant afternoon was spent. Miss K, Pickmere gave a very interesting and instructive address on Maori legends and native flora. Songs were sung by Mrs C. L. Brett 'Hamilton) and Miss Rena Armstrong. Humorous recitations were also given by Mrs T. Griffin (Kamo) which were greatly enjoyed. The first points prize for pie-melon jam was won by Mrs H. Hawken, with Mrs Clarke second and Mrs Armstrong third. The second points prize was won by Mrs Fcaver. with Mrs Armstrong second and Mrs Clarke third. A flower competition was won by Mrs Eric Johnson, with Mrs Mallabond second. The hall, arranged as a sitting-room and nicely decorated, was the work of Mrs H. Hawken and Miss Hayward. The birthday cake was made and given by Mrs Clarke. Mrs Carter, the oldest member of the Institute, cut the cake and was presented with a small present. A mystery parcel caused much amusement and was finally won by Mrs Douglas Wilson. The afternoon’s entertainment was concluded by the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
