Sparking Plugs
The importance of cleaning sparking plugs, spacing their firing points correctly, and keeping the makc-and-break ignition timing clean and correctly adjusted is not realised by quite a large prccentage ot motor owners. As compression pressures and engine speeds have become greater, the necessity for accuracy of plug point adjustment and ignition setting becomes increasingly important. Not only does an engine function better when llie.se hard-working parts get occasional attention. but one travels further per gallon of petrol. It will surprise many motorists to learn that dirty plugs and ill-adjusted firing points can account for a waste of as much as one gallon in every ton used. Petrol was sold at 9d per gallon in Britain during the year 1896. w * * * In the early days of the motor car industry, we read, a man bought some scrap metal and made a car out of it. The modern procedure is just the reverse.
