Death Waits For The Hangman
(Received 8-30 a.m.) LONDON. July 20. Penniless and alone, Arthur Ellis, whose real name is Arthur Alexander English. Canada's hangman, who. in the course of 25 years lias executed more than 500 persons, lies near death in the local hospital, says a message from Montreal. Ellis, who is aged 73. is the son of an English officer of the King's Guard, and learned his grim trade from his brother, John Ellis, a famous British hangman.
