Whangarei’s New Commercial Buildings
Confidence in the continued expansion of Whangarei’s business resources is expressed in the numerous additions to the towri’s commercial ■'buildings within the past 18 months. This spirit is exemplified in new business blocks now being erected. A large block is being built for Mr. J. Marshall on the corner of Walton and Clyde Streets. With a frontage of 146 feet to Walton Street. thi§ block will be leased by Messrs. D. McL. Wallace, Ltd., who will incorporate storerooms. car showroom, machinery showroom, offices and a garage and greasing station, on the promises. One or two other shops, fronting Clyde Street, will be sublet. The building will be a completely modern single-floored structure of reinforced concrete. The contractor is Mr. A. Walker. Weston Bros’ Additions. What will be one of the largest garages in Whangarei will be occupied by Messrs Weston Bros, when additions now under way to their Water Street premises are completed. A new block with a 40ft frontage and 96ft deep is being added to the eastern side of their building, and will provide a spacious showroom for used cars, with a roofed-in car wash at the rear. This will be reached by an alleyway 12ft wide. The addition is being made in rein forced concrete, the work being done by Messrs Kemp and Rennie.
