Debate At Mangamuka
An interesting and amusing debate was held at the Women’s Institute Hall, under the auspices of the Mangamuka River Settlers’ Association. and the Tutekehua and Omahuta Women’s Institute. The subject of the debate was “That the lot of a savage was happier than is that of a civilised man.” Mr Tulloch led the affirmative, assisted by Messrs McFarland and Wiggins, and Mr Cauty led the negative, his colleagues being Messrs Mulcahy and Steele, There were some spirited arguments on both sides, causing much amusement to the fairly large audience. Mr Forbes acted as judge, and gave an able summing up at the close of the debate. The result was very close, the affirmative winning by one mark, gaining 129. Mr D. Cameron was in the chair. At the close of the debate, supper was served by the ladies.
