Hold-up In N. Wairoa District
For the 24 hours ended 8 a.m. yesterday, the rainfall at Dargaville was 2.2 inches. The Awakino stream overflowed this morning and the school bus was unable to get through to Waihue. The main route from Donnelly’s Crossing to Kaikohe has been blocked on. account of a slip. Workmen are now removing earth, and it was expected that the road will again be open on Thursday morning or early this morning. Considerable flooding has occurred at Taylor’s Flat, on the main highway between Whangarei and Dargaville. This morning the road was covered to a depth of 6ft and the river was running bank high at Tangiteroria. Service cars used the Houto detour route.
