Fruitgrowers’ Record Crop
[Per Press Association. Copyright .] HASTINGS, This Day. The record fruit crop, and the increased business transacted by the federation, were points emphasised at the annual provincial conference of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation yesterday. Mr F. Paynter said that the day was not far distant when fruit expert from Hawke’s Bay would touch the half-millicn mark. Mr Paynter said that the turnover for the past season had been a record for the federation and for Hawke’s Bay. The turnover of the Hawke’s Bay branch had been £58,260, compared with the previous record of £29,500. The crops in the district this year had been a record, and export figures were also a record. Increased costs were worrying orchardists, and had it not been for the local over-all guarantee of 5/2 a case, growers would have been in a serious position.
